While President Obama is busy giving thanks to friends and family this Thanksgiving, former presidents were busy giving thanks to God. Our country has always noted the provision and protection that God has provided for us.
Our President now is afraid to violate the so-called "separation of church and state";by calling on Americans to give thanks to God. The man who coined the phrase "separation of church and state" said this about Thanksgiving: "I appoint...a day of public Thanksgiving to Almighty God...to ask Him that He would... pour out His Holy Spirit on all ministers of the Gospel; that He would...spread the light of Christian knowledge through the remotest corners of the earth;....and that he would establish these United States upon the basis of religion and virtue."-Governor Thomas Jefferson. He sure didn't sound afraid to talk about God.
George Washington said this about Thanksgiving. "Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor...Now, therefore, I do appoint Thursday, the 26th day of November 1789...that we may all unite to render unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection."
This Thanksgiving, don't forget to give Thanks to the True One who has provided us Americans with all of the blessings we have.
So true, thanks for sharing, happy new year!
